10th IWA Water Resource Recovery Modelling Seminar

WRRmod2026
Local organizer
Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 08193 Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona Spain

WRRmod2026 will emphasise sharing and improving best practices in developing and applying WRRF models to tackle major environmental issues. Authors are encouraged to highlight how their research, tools, or case studies contribute to enhancing the modelling of WRRFs. Real case studies, and fusion papers among research groups and/or water companies will be prioritised.

Application sectors:

• WRRF modelling from a utility perspective: design, retrofitting, operation and control.
• New processes and technologies:
o Advanced nutrient removal
o Energy optimisation
o Resource recovery
o Prediction and mitigation of GHG emissions
o Tertiary and quaternary treatments
o Removal of contaminants of emerging concern
• Water reuse solutions
• Centralised vs decentralised systems

Methodologies
• Data treatment and sensors
• Data driven/hybrid/mechanistic modelling
• Digital twins
• Artificial intelligence-based solutions
• CFD/Compartmental modelling
• Novel mathematical tools

Thematic areas
Wastewater Systems (small scale), Wastewater Systems (large scale), Resource Recovery and Reuse, Treatment Technologies
